Selling for the Soul-Rich and Pushy-Impaired

Okay. Here’s our Universal Writer’s Fantasy!

We sell our book to a Big Publisher, who gives us gentle, helpful editing over lunches at the Algonquin Hotel and a gaggle of artists and designers to make our book beautiful. When it’s time to sell the book, the Big Publisher hires marketing and PR specialists who place ads and promotional items in sure-fire media outlets. We have only to follow the dots and show up at exclusive venues to read and sign books. Six-figure sales are guaranteed! Seven-figure sales are possible!

But then…we wake up! Somebody tells us that whether we self-publish or go with a traditional publisher, we will have to do our own marketing and sales! Knowing that this cannot possibly be true, we ask someone else and get the same answer. We ask more and more people until slowly, finally we come to understand that we will have to sell our own book. Yikes! This was not what we signed up to do—but there it is.

Take heart! There is a way to sell that is easy, natural, and can be done even by the selling-reluctant. I am both selling-impaired and selling-reluctant, so I developed the Soul of Selling system to ease, edify, and enrich my own journey through selling. I wanted a way to sell that guaranteed specific results, service to my buyers, and ease and self esteem to me.

I realized that if I followed 6 simple steps each time I went out to sell, I felt great about myself and also got big sales numbers. I wrote down everything I learned in The Soul of Selling. Read a sample chapter here.

Writing is my major, but selling is my minor. My pursuit of the Zone led me to explore many forms of spirituality and personal growth. I fell in love with some of them and acted as Director of Sales for two start-ups that achieved ongoing and international success.

I taught myself to sell from a spiritual, service-oriented point of view that also guaranteed concrete (and large) sales numbers—something that you must do when an organization is growing from three friends sitting around a kitchen table to tens of thousands of people around the world.

The Soul of Selling details those 6 powerful steps that help you to:

  • Relax into your own unique brand of enthusiasm, and feel great about yourself
  • Let go of any mental chatter that keeps you from enjoying and/or succeeding at sales
  • Discover and harness your own natural enthusiasm, and renew it at will
  • Deliver specific results, consistently, with ease and joy
  • Conduct the ten-step Honoring Sales Conversation, which includes making “the ask,” handling objections, and closing the sale with grace and generosity

You take the guesswork out of results, and the stress out of selling. Selling becomes not just the means to an end, but a source of wellbeing, joy, and fulfillment—as well as reliable profit.

The six steps keep you on track with the three Soul of Selling principles:

  • Honor yourself
  • Honor others
  • Honor what you offer

You sell based on personal values, authentic relationships, genuine contribution, integrity, service, and simply being yourself.

Anyone who has a product, service, cause, or idea to share with the world:

  • Coaches, consultants, and other professionals
  • Entrepreneurs and fundraisers
  • Sales professionals
  • Network marketers
  • Anyone who wants to bring others on board with their product, service, project or vision
  • People who want to fuse great sales results with personal integrity, spirituality, and life purpose

“This is cutting edge…and I’ve read them all! Ms. Costello has turned up the heat on selling techniques that will change the way I do business. I feel a new sense of ease already, and can’t wait to utilize these techniques in my day to day interactions. Excellent read, too!” Tom LeNoble, Sales and Service Executive

I read plenty of business books in my job, and I can confidently say that this little book is one of the more profound works I’ve encountered on business, selling, and life. Few of us are aware of the baggage we carry around about sales, marketing, and success. Carol Costello has opened my eyes and given me an entirely new way to achieve success without selling my soul. This book is as much about being a good person as it is about being successful. If you’ve even thought for a second that the two are mutually exclusive, buy this book!” “Book Guy” Amazon reviewer

I love this book! I am one to avoid all activity related to selling ANYTHING. This book helped me see the value that a salesperson IS to people. And what a fun read! I’ve given this book as gifts to all sorts of “sales” people: a soccer mom, a President/CEO for a nonprofit, and an attorney. There are good tips for those in all walks of life.” Christine Schmoeckel, Chief Information Officer

“If you do what Carol Costello says, you will be successful, and enjoy the process. Whether you are fundraising for your child’s school, a professional salesperson, or a small business owner, this book will help you clarify and achieve your goals.” Carolyn Ingram, Ed.D.
